Researchers and devotees of history are no doubt familiar with
the series of books by Burke dealing with (primarily) British
families, specifically those of a noble background. This CD includes
images from eleven volumes of Burke (as originally published by
the Genealogical Publishing Company) which feature information
on approximately 429,000 individuals. Two of the volumes detail
U.S. family lineages.
Typical information includes a historical sketch of the family, followed
by details on the lineage. Information I found included the traditional
event dates (births, deaths, marriages), as well as arms (when applicable),
military history, biographical details for specific individuals, education,
and more.
You'll find indexed images from the following books:
- Burke's American Families with British Ancestry by Sir John
Bernard Burke
- A Genealogical History of the Dormant, Abeyant, Forfeited, and
Extinct Peerages of the British Empire by Sir John Bernard Burke
- A Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Extinct and Dormant
Baronetcies of England, Ireland, and Scotland by John Burke and
John Bernard Burke
- Burke's Family Records by Ashworth P. Burke
- A Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Colonial Gentry
by John Bernard Burke and Ashworth P. Burke
- The General Armory of England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales
by John Bernard Burke
- A Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Commoners of Great
Britain and Ireland (Reprinted with the Index to Pedigrees
in Burke's Commoners by George Ormerod) by John Bernard Burke
- The Prominent Families of the United States of America by
Arthur Meredyth Burke

Because this CD contains a digital version of the eleven
volumes, the original introductions, title pages, prefaces,
appendices, and indexes are included; the resource also
contains an electronic all-name index for ease of searching.
Searches can be conducted for names, book title, or page
number.
I have always enjoyed browsing through Burke's lineage
books because of the easy to read layout and format, however
the information is unsourced, so it needs to be verified
before you accept it for inclusion in your database. Regardless,
the CD is well worth the purchase for researchers who have
British ancestors of note.
